Elta Fans and their guests were amongst some 700 representatives from the building services industry at the 2013 CIBSE Building Performance Awards at London's Grosvenor House, as Elta presented the Award in the 'Contractor of the Year' category to Norland Managed Services.

The Awards, always a highlight in the building industry calendar, took place on 5 February, with Elta a category sponsor for the sixth consecutive year. Damian Buxton, Finance Director of Elta Fans, joined guest host Gyles Brandreth on stage in presenting the Contractor of the Year to the team from Norland.

The short list of three companies from the wide range of category entries comprised Interserve Engineering Services, Kier Construction and Norland Managed Services, with Norland taking the top spot. The award recognised Norland's role in a £1.5 million project which included the removal of an existing problematic HVAC system and replacing it with a new one, at the Darlington Campus of mobile communications specialists Everything Everywhere (EE).

Energy efficiency and sustainability in construction and operation were key criteria for the judges, issues which are currently very high profile for Elta. As one of the world's leading manufacturers of fans for HVAC applications, Elta are continuing in their development programme to meet the requirements of the ErP (Energy related Products) Directive. A number of compliant fans have already been introduced, with others being added to the Elta Select range to meet the energy efficiency parameters stipulated in the new legislation.

Commenting on the winning entry, the judges said – "‰Û_it demonstrated their interaction with the client's users, with training, post-occupancy evaluation and local sourcing prominent."

Damian Buxton comments – "As a business, we have lived and breathed the sustainable approach to building over the last 18 months as the 1 January 2013 deadline for the introduction of the first phase of the ErP Directive loomed ever closer. We have worked closely with CIBSE, the organisers of tonight's Awards, to ensure that the market is aware of the importance of the legislation, including CIBSE conducting an interview on the subject with my colleague Alan Macklin for the 'Business Channel' TV platform. I'd like to congratulate Norland on winning the Contractor of the Year for 2013 and look forward to seeing increasingly energy efficient fans incorporated into their projects in the coming months."

Elta Fans is part of the £85 million Elta Group, a family of businesses with operations in six countries on four continents which, together with a network of international distributors, provides quality fans and related air movement equipment to customers worldwide.
